Frequently Asked Questions
We offer both ‘at ours’ and ‘at yours’ services; although when we come to yours our services may be more limited. Some jobs may take more than one day or be required to stay overnight (e.g. fabric cleaning jobs that need to dry out - or larger polishing jobs that take multiple days) so in these cases it is best brought to us.
When coming to us we are based at 565 Yaldhurst Road, Yaldhurst. Or mobile we can come Canterbury Wide!
Great question! We generally differentiate grooming versus detailing in relation to the level of detail taken to complete the job. Grooming is often a more time pressured service that falls under a lower price point whereas detailing generally comes at a higher cost and takes longer. A difference could be something simple; for example, detailing might clean inside your air vents whereas a groom may only wipe over the dashboard. Another example could be more complex; for example, detailing might clean the wheels, barrels and calipers whereas a groom may only focus on the wheel faces.
If you are looking for the highest quality clean on your vehicle - you need to see a detailer like us, The Detailing Specialists. If you are wanting a fast job that is more price driven we may not be the right service for you.
We require payment upon completion of all jobs; including business to business work. Our payment options include cash, VISA, Mastercard and Afterpay. We provide a premium service and do not on-charge credit card fees to our customers.
With Afterpay you can pay for your detailing or ceramic coating job over 4 instalments. You must sign up to an Afterpay account and be pre-approved prior to collection of your vehicle; and must have the 'Afterpay card' activated on your mobile. Some Afterpay accounts may have credit limits imposed - in which case we would require the balance paid using a different method on pick up.
If you are a business customer and require an invoice we can send this prior to work completion for payment; and of course can provide you a copy of the invoice with purchase order numbers or company details upon completion of your job.
We can work on almost any vehicle if it has paint, gelcoat or metal. As a standard we usually work on cars, motorcycles, campervans, boats, jetskis.
Have a detailing job outside of the norm? Let us know. Maybe you have a bus, tram, unimog, polaris, quad, combine harvester, trailer or something else... we would love to be of service!
Yes we certainly do. We have well practiced and specialty skills that relate to insurance; including ceramic coating reapplication, overspray removal, dent and scratch repairs, car wash damage repairs, brush damage repair, water leak and upholstery stain removals, trim repairs and much more.
We have worked with many major insurance companies in the past. If you would like The Detailing Specialists to perform insurance work on your vehicle simply inform your insurance company of us being your preferred repairer and we will take care of the rest!
The Detailing Specialists entered the Christchurch market in 2018 under our former name, Canterbury Auto Detailing, with the mission to bring a new standard of detailing. Since 2018 we have gone from strength to strength and with happy customers both in the private and wholesale markets, working on vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, boats, jet skis and campervans. In 2023 we undertook a big change with a full rebrand to The Detailing Specialists.
The Detailing Specialists is owned by Sam Gibbons, who has been in the detailing industry since 2013; previously starting OCD (Obsessive Car Detailing) in Auckland in 2014.
Please do get in touch. Even if our online calendar shows as full we may be able to fit you in or move some other jobs around.
Yes! But let us explain a few reasons why... Firstly our experience and expertise in this industry runs deep. Our team are all experienced detailers with a passion for their work - we are not here to simply 'do a job' but instead perform the best detailing on your vehicle. Owner Sam has been operating detailing businesses in NZ since 2013 and has a wide portfolio of working on vehicles ranging from a humble Corolla to the Aston Martin Vulcan (the most expensive car in the southern hemisphere).
